Provenance
Lady Elizabeth Wardle (1835-1902) founded the Leek Embroidery Society and School, Staffordshire in 1879. Her husband, Thomas Wardle, worked as a dyer for William Morris. In 1871 he established Wardle & Co. - a company which supplied retailers such as Liberty & Co.
