A sampler by Alice Thorp Born August 8 1824, worked in coloured silks, mainly in cross stitch, with a prayer above a house and garden, two angels blowing trumpets, a stylised butterfly, sheep, trees and flowers, in trailing floral border, on a linen ground -17in. square (43cm.); and another sampler, worked in coloured thread with a variety of stitches depicting floral and abstract patterns, on a linen ground--23 x 17in.
