Lot Essay

Vanmour lived in Constantinople for 38 years and is known for his depictions of Ottoman life, local costumes, views of Constantinople and diplomatic events. A famous group of paintings by Vanmour and his studio is at the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. The present lot resembles Vanmours work both in subject matter and style.
