ANNUNCIATION TO THE SHEPHERDS, miniature cut from a Book of Hours, illuminated manuscript on vellum [northern France, c.1440]. 102 x 70mm overall (miniature). Framed by a gold and pink fillet and set against a chequered background the arch-topped miniature shows two startled shepherds and their dog looking up towards a half-length angel, the sheep continue to graze (some fading of red pigment and some rubbing). Framed. The miniature would have illustrated terce in the Office of the Virgin.
ALL SAINTS, miniature cut from a printed Missal or Breviary, COLOURED WOODCUT. 102 x 71mm (miniature). Quadripartite miniature with Apostles, Martyrs, Confessors and Virgins standing in two arcaded registers above a one-line rubric in red. Framed. The miniature opened the Common of Saints. (2)
