JIAJING SIX-CHARACTER MARK IN UNDERGLAZE BLUE WITHIN A DOUBLE CIRCLE AND OF THE PERIOD (1522-1566)
With shallow rounded sides rising from a tapering foot ring, the interior incised and decorated in reserve with a dragon leaping amidst clouds and the exterior with two striding dragons, all left in the biscuit and reserved on a very pale bluish-white ground

Lot Essay

It is unusual to find a white-glazed biscuit-reserved dragon dish with a Jiajing mark, as dishes of this type are more commonly found with Hongzhi reign marks. Compare the equally rare, pale celadon-glazed biscuit-reserved dragon dish, also bearing a Jiajing mark, from the T.Y. Chao Private and Family Trust Collections, sold Sotheby's, Hong Kong, 19 May 1987, lot 257.
