Lot Essay

A similar cup of the same size with Yongzheng mark is illustrated by R. Krahl, Chinese Ceramics in the Meiyintang Collection, vol. 2, London, 1994, p. 183, no. 826, where it is suggested that the mottling was intended "to imitate the effect of some thick red glazes of the early Ming dynasty". See, also, the similar cup previously from the collection of Dr. Ip Yee, sold in our Hong Kong rooms, 29 April 1997, lot 589.
