Lot Essay

An almost identical set of 'stuff'd back and seat' chairs was supplied to the 5th Duke of Bolton (d.1765) for Hackwood Park, Hampshire. Recorded in the 'Blue Silk and Worsted Bedchamber' in the 1765 Inventory, the set of fourteen was sold at Christie's House sale, 20-22 April 1998, lots 15 (£58,700).
