Lot Essay

This lantern design reflects the greater appreciation and passion for Japanese culture, which infiltrated into the English garden towards the end of the 19th century (Alistair Morris, Antiques from the Garden, Antique Collectors Club, Woodbridge, 1996. Page 61 & 65. This type of exotic lantern was introduced into the gardens at Bodnant.
