FIRST ENGLISH EDITION of Bernardin's account of his voyages from 1768 to 1771. Bernardin travelled to Mauritius in 1769, where he remained for two years as soldier, engineer and missionary. He later published Paul et Virginie in 1789. The present work contains his 'observations and reflections upon Nature and Mankind'. Mendelssohn II, p. 263; Toussaint D 1406.
