DE DUREAU, J. (editor). [Views in Mauritius; Vues de l'Ile Maurice. n.d., but plates dated 1840]
2° (365 x 250mm). Dedication to Mr Daguerre, text in English and French, 4 numbered lithographic plates by de Dureau, and Pitot, Demay, Devaux and C.D. St Alme. (Some light, unobtrusive spotting.) Contemporary half calf gilt with marbled boards, the upper cover with gilt-stamped morocco lettering piece (extremities rubbed).
An interesting set of views, printed in Mauritius. The lithographs, of Monplaisir, the Protestant Church, the Tomb of General Malartic and The Observatory, are accompanied by descriptions and recollections. Cf. Toussaint A 556 (dated 1841).
