POPHAM, Sir Home Riggs (1762-1820). A Description of Prince of Wales Island, in the Streights of Malacca: with its real and probable advantages and sources to recommend it as a marine establishment. London: Geo. Cawthorm, 1799. 4° (265 x 215mm). 2 folding engraved maps. (Old repair to fold of one map, light brwoning to title). Modern red cloth. FIRST EDITION of Popham's description of the island and the southern channel discovered and surveyed by him in 1791.
Sir Home Riggs POPHAM. Telegraphic Signals; or marine vocabulary: with observations on signal flags, and the best mode of applying them. London: C. Roworth for T. Egerton, 1812. 8° (231 x 140mm). Hand-coloured engraved frontispiece, the majority of the 400 pages of letterpress tables with a small wood-cut flag in the headline, most of these flags hand-coloured. Contemporary blue straight-grained morocco, covers with elaborate border in gilt and blind, spine in six compartments with raised bands, lettered in gilt in the second, gilt turn-ins, gilt edges (extremities slightly scuffed). A FINE COPY OF THE FIRST EDITION of Popham's 'code of signals which was adopted by the admiralty in 1803, and continued in use for many years' (DNB).

[No place but ?London: no date but ?1805]; [Bound with:] Reports from the Select Committee on Papers relating to the Repairs of His Majesty's Ships The Romney and Sensible, while under the Command of Sir Home Popham. [No place but ?London: no date but ?1805]. 2 works in one volume, 2° (330 x 202mm). 1 folding letterepress table. Contemporary half roan (spine faded, extremities rubbed). The parliamentary report which cleared Popham of any wrong-doing concerning the refit of vessels under his command in Calcutta in 1801.
Together with 13 others by or concerning Sir Home Popham, the majority concerning his conduct relating to the repairs of the 'Romney' and the 'Sensible' in Calcutta, but also his part as naval commander of the expedition which led to the short-lived capture of Buenos Aires in 1806. (16)
