Engraved portrait frontispiece, folding engraved map, 16 plates (6 tinted lithographs drawn on stone by J. Wolf, printed by Hanhart, 10 wood-engravings), numerous wood-engraved illustrations. Original green cloth, blocked in gilt and blind (extremities bumped, inner hinges cracked). Provenance: W.J. Stewart (inscription dated 1863). A FINE COPY OF THE FIRST EDITION 'Mr. Baldwin's experiences are written in a simple and unostentatious manner, but he went through more adventures than almost any other of the great South African travellers and hunters': Mendelssohn I,p.73.
