Provenance: Marshall Clifford Lefferts (bookplate; sold Bangs & Co., 21 April 1902, lot 213); Winston Henry Hagen (bookplate; sold Anderson Galleries, 13 May 1918, lot 210, called first edition); John Camp Williams (bookplate; sold Anderson Galleries, 6 November 1928, lot 284, called first edition).

Second edition of this bitter attack on Cromwell. "Though it bears the same date as [the first edition] this was probably not printed till some years later, perhaps about 1660. There was another reprint of 1709, and of this later issue undated was formerly ascribed in the British Museum catalogue to 'c. 1680'" (Greg). The prologue mentions Shakespeare and Jonson.
