Lot Essay

This work seems to have been an intended study for the famous painting Promenade à âne located at the Cummer Art Gallery in Jacksonville, Florida in which Augustine, who was the artist's favorite Italian model, appears riding a donkey.

It is also possible to connect this work to the painting Baigneuses dated from the same year (whereabouts unknown), for which Augustine also posed.
