Lot Essay

Emile-Antoine Bayard was known not only as a painter but also as an illustrator. He worked for Journal pour rire, L'Illustration, Journal des Voyages and the Bibliothèque rose. He was well-known for his large works executed in charcoal and sanguine, and he was commissioned to decorate the foyer of the theatre in the Palais-Royal in Paris.
