A LURISTAN BRONZE AXE HEAD
9TH-7TH CENTURY B.C.
The narrow crescent blade with janiform feline head at join with shaft, a fan of feathers emerging from its open mouth, the ridged cylindrical shaft surmounted by a recumbent lion with looped tail, 6¾ in. (17 cm.) long; two bronze adze-axe heads with central shaft holes and blades set at right angles, one with shaft decorated with dotted circles and chevron ridges, both late 2nd/early 1st millennium B.C., 6¾ in. (17 cm.) long max.; and an Elamite votive axe-hammer with flaring crest protruding from side of shaft, pierced three times for attachment, circa late 2nd millennium B.C., 5½ in. (14 cm.) long max.
