Lot Essay

(most probably the bird now known as the Eastern Rosella)
The Port Jackson Painter was the reference used for an unkown artist or school of artists active in Sydney from 1788 to circa 1795. Working in the tradition of navel topographical drawing, the Port Jackson painter documented life of the First Fleet at Port Jackson.
Watercolours and drawings by the Port Jackson Painter can be found in the British Museum and the Rex Nan Kivell Collection
