A CELTIC SILVER TORQUE
CIRCA 50 B.C.-100 A.D.
The penannular composite hoop formed from two pairs of twisted wires and two single wires, with hollow ring-shaped terminals, 6 in. (15 cm.) diam. max.; a Celtic lunar bronze pendant and four bronze belt and buckle mounts, all 1st-3rd Century A.D., 1¾ in. (4.5 cm.) long max.; an Anglo-Saxon zoomorphic bronze belt attachment, 2 in. (5 cm.) long; and a silver coin, ¾ in. (1.8 cm.) diam., both 7th Century A.D. (8)
Provenance
Item one: acquired by the present owner's late father between 1959 and 1975 in London; the coin found on farmland in Dorset; remaining items acquired from an English deceased estate.
