A LARGE DAUNIAN POTTERY OLLA
6TH CENTURY B.C.
The bulbous body with wide flaring rim, with twin 'horned' side handles between which are two stylized horned deer head protomes, the vessel with black painted decoration, concentric arcs on the rim, bands around the body with central frieze of hatched lozenges, rays radiating around the foot, some glaze worn, repaired, 12½ in. (31.8 cm.) high; another with squat conical body and high flaring funnel-shaped rim, the body with two looped side handles between two side rings, painted in orange and black, bands and arcs on the rim, bands and short wavy lines in 'metopes' on the body, mid-5th Century B.C., 7 3/8 in. (18.7 cm.) high; and a South Italian pottery askos, the body with cylindrical vertical spout with concave rim, the arching handle surmounting the pinched back, the upper body in brown with three applied palmettes on each side, a single palmette on the spout's neck, 4th Century B.C., 6¾ in. (17.2 cm.) high (3)
