The rounded rectangular kingwood crossbanded and satinwood banded top enclosing a veneered surface banded in mahogany, above an ebonised-inlaid and brass roundel-mounted frieze centred by a tablet, on a faceted column and concave-sided plinth, on hipped downswept legs with brass paw caps and castors

Lot Essay

This pier-table form, with pillar and Grecian-scrolled 'claw', was introduced around 1800 with en suite sofa tables. A pair of brass-inlaid rosewood tables with the same pattern of truss-supported pillar, was sold anonymously, Sotheby's New York, 19 November 1988, lot 101.
