Lot Essay

Although vases of this form decorated in blue and white, as well as crackle glazes, are well known in the Qianlong period, there are relatively few extant examples from the Yongzheng reign.

Compare the form with a smaller Yongzheng-marked blue and white example in the National Palace Museum illustrated in Blue-and-White Ware of the Ch'ing Dynasty, Book 1, Hong Kong , 1968, pl.6, 6a-b; and to a Qianlong-marked blue and white hexagonal vase offered in this sale as lot 1046.
