Lot Essay

A similar but less crisp window tile was sold in these Rooms, 10th October 2000, lot 248. Although it was made using the same basic concept, the central cusped aperture there was more rounded and the interlacing lines formed panels containing stylised palmettes and not geometric panels. This tile gains its strength from the powerful geometric symmetry of the intersecting lines.
