A RARE DUTCH MUSICAL AUTOMATON WALNUT LONGCASE CLOCK

The inlaid walnut bombe case on ball & claw feet, the trunk door with a glass lenticle in brass frame cast with the figure of Time within a rococo scroll and shell, the shaped hood with a giltwood figure of Atlas flanked by finials; the signed silvered arcaded chapter ring enclosing an engraved week day aperture with sunk subsidiary seconds to finely engraved rococo plates, with a quarter striking eight day movement, the shaped dial above a painted automaton scene painted with a coastal scene, ships, mermaids and whales; numbered moon phase, subsidiary 'Slaan & Spleen/Nietslaan & Nietspleen' (strike/silent) dials and tune dial with twelve tunes, three weight driven trains, anchor escapement, Dutch striking, quarter strike on 2 bells, hour, plus half strike on separate bells, music on the hour on 11 bells with 19 hammers from a 25 cylinder mounted on the back plate, the automata at the half, three quarter and on the hour driven by a separate fusee train
