The present watch is part of a small series of aluminium dress watches made as a study. The advantages of this metal are its extremely light weight and resistance to corrosion. The overall weight of the present lot including all parts is only 23 grams.

Reynolds Metals Company, the world's third largest aluminium company, began making tin foil cigarette and candy wrappers as the U.S. Foil Company in 1919, under the leadership of Richard S. Reynolds, a nephew of tobacco magnate R.J. Reynolds.
