Cal. 17''', with nickel-finished lever movement, 29 jewels, bimetallic compensation balance, wolf's tooth winding, repeating on two polished steel hammers onto two gongs, the gilt engine-turned dial with Arabic numerals on blank chapter ring, blued steel pear hands, subsidiary seconds, in circular case with finely inlaid black enamel Art Deco style geometrical decoration to bezel, rim, pendant and bow, the reverse with eccentric inlaid black enamel initials FFT, repeating slide in the band, case and dial signed by maker, movement signed by maker and retailer

Lot Essay

Accompanied by Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch in 1919 and its subsequent sale on 6 July 1923. Furthermore delivered with Patek Philippe/Spaulding original fitted wooden presentation box containing a Spaulding leather pouch, spare crystal and mainspring.

The remnant of a letter signed Spaulding-Gorham, Inc., addressed to Mr. Frank F. Taylor, Continental Illinois Bank and Trust Co., Chicago, Illinois, contains the description of the watch. As the initials to the reverse of the watch read FFT it can be assumed that the present watch was made upon special order for Mr. Taylor.
