Lot Essay

Accompanied by Vacheron Constantin original fitted wooden presentation box and outer packaging.

Wristwatches with concealed dials were very popular in the early 20th century, the designs including covers consisting of either coins or monogrammed pieces that popped up at the push of a button.

In 1930, Vacheron introduced a wristwatch with an innovative system of gold shutters covering the dial and which could be opened and closed by sliding a small lever in the band. The louvered swivel shutter protected the watch crystal from damages.

The Shutter watch was reissued in 1997 in a limited edition of 125 examples and with the new name "Jalousie", the French word for "Shutter". The present watch is number 81 of this series.
