Lot Essay

Another detail of a public fountain, this time in Scutari (Uskudar), on the Asian side of the Bosphorns, although now effectively a suburb of Istanbul. Probably 18th century, the symmetrical panels either side of the tap have naturalistic representations of vases with flowers and grain while the arched top has a more typically stylised arabesque pattern.
