to Charles-Frédéric Kuhlmann (1803-1881);
by descent to the present owner.

Kuhlmann, who began his career as a Chemistry professor in Lille, was named Officier de la Légion d'Honneur in 1854 and in 1867 was awarded the title of Commandeur for his outstanding contributions to the field of Chemistry. He was a strong supporter of Blanquart-Evrard's photographic experimentation and helped finance his l'Imprimerie photographique, which opened in the summer of 1851 in Loos-les-Lille.
