Lot Essay

The imagery in the present work is derived from a drawing dated October 1934 (Merkert, no. 156 D1), a study that is related to the forged iron sculpture Femme se coiffant II, circa 1934 (Merkert, no. 156; coll. Moderne Museet, Stockholm). In both drawings a figure is seen holding a small mirror up to her head. The three-pronged horizontal element in the present drawing represents a hair comb.
