1929 Vintage
This is one of the greatest Burgundy vintages of the 20th century, and well ahead of the 1928 in quality. A very warm summer, followed by scattered showers in September, gave a generous harvest of rich, powerful, harmonious wines, which - when perfectly cellared, as in this case - have aged magnificently. Tasting note from a representative bottle from this cellar:
Pale, autumn leaf colour, with an astounding, sweet fragrance. Totally clean and fresh. To taste, this is rich yet delicate, the mid-palate having melted into smoothness, the finish being wonderfully long, complex and mouthcoating. Whoever said Burgundy does not improve with age ? AH
Very little red left, autumnal, orange trimmed; yet and extremely good, rich Pinot nose, opening up fragrantly. Also sweet and rich on the palate. MB
