ARMAND ROUSSEAU
This domaine has a proven record going back to the 1930s, when Armand Rousseau was one of the very first to start bottling his own wine at the domaine.
As a courtier before the First World War, Armand Rousseau knew of all the parcels of land coming for sale and saw the opportunity to build a domaine of his own. Raymond Baudoin, consultant to a number of restaurants persuaded Rousseau and others to domaine-bottle their best cuvées for his best customers. Through the restaurants came private clients and through an introduction to Frank Schoonmaker the American market beckoned.
This cache of 1934 Chambertin, Cuvée A it must be surmised was part of only a small amount of Rousseau's wine that was being exported at this time - making the quantities represented here - even more remarkable.
