Tasting note from a representative bottle from this cellar:
Medium garnet, with pale, orange rim. On the nose, this was rich and plummy. Tasted alongside the three, superb Raymond Boyer 1929 wines, it must be acknowledged that this Richebourg showed more powerful fruit, with a freshness that was even more remarkable. Tasting it induced an excited tensing of the muscles in me, and I made an involuntary, tiny leap into the air. This was astonishing for its dense, sweet fruit, its sustained middle palate, its outstanding complexity and length. It is one of the greatest red Burgundies I have ever drunk. AH

There is a mistaken belief that Burgundy does not keep as well as red Bordeaux. Not so. Moreover, as in Bordeaux, 1929 was a superb vintage. Appearances are also deceptive. The Pinot noir has a thin skin and so red burgundies are relatviey and misleadingly pales in colour, for it is a remarkably rich concentrated wine. A faultless bouquet, sweet, touch of vanilla, sweet and delicious on the palate too. Outstanding.
