The 4½ inch chapter ring engraved on the gilt-dial plate with Roman numerals and hour touch pieces, two train movement with iron front plate, plain pillars, fusee for the going train with altered verge escapement and altered balance, the strike with standing spring barrel, animal engraved locking gate and countwheel with pierced and engraved centre, the bell mounted between the plates, the backplate signed Michel Nerlinck within an engraved cartouche and mounted with strike stop-work and a regulation scale, similarly pierced and engraved clock, the palin case with moulded edge and pirced bell aperture on one side, with an early 'tulip' winder

Lot Essay

This table clock relates closely to German examples. But where German clockmakers would sign only with their initials and would use double Arabic and Roman numbering, Flemish clockmakers tended to sign their pieces in full and use only single numbering. It is also interesting to note the hour touch pieces on the dial for night reading.
