Lot Essay

The drawing reproduces a painting exhibited by Guèrin in the 1799 Salon, acquired by the state and now in the Louvre. The volumes of the Galerie du Musée Napoleon illustrate some 720 pictures from the newly created Musée Napoleon. The plates were engraved by Dufraine, Malapeau, Duplessi-Berteau, Damprun and others. On the frontispiece is a portrait of the publisher Filhol drawn by Bourdon and engraved by Pauquet.
