the matt-silvered and painted dial signed WEMPE HAMBURG CHRONOMETER WERKE 8400, black painted hour numeral, subsidiary second and up-and-down dials, all hands of blued steel, left-handed fusee movement frosted nickel plated frame, Earnshaw escapement, bi-metallic Guillaume balance with four cylindrical heat compensation weight, polished white metal helical balance spring, flat strip spring detent to side or banking block with jewelled looking stone, painted black metal bowl and bezel, painted brass gimbal ring in later three-tier plain mahogany box -- 4 1/8in. (10.5cm.) diameter; box 3 1/8in. (18cm.) square
