AN ETRUSCAN BRONZE PRIESTESS
CIRCA 2ND CENTURY B.C.
Depicted clad in a sleeveless, high-belted chiton and an ample himation pulled up over the back of her head as a veil and across her waist, standing with her weight on her left leg, the right bent at the knee and pulled back, her shoes emerging from below the hem, her left arm held close to her side with the forearm projecting forward, holding a pyxis, its upper surface engraved, the right arm outstretched once holding an attribute, her gaze angled upward, an elaborate diadem topped with a rosette in her long wavy hair, wearing disk and pendant earrings

Provenance
Said to be found in the Sanctuary of Diana on the shores of Lake Nemi, among the Alban hills in Latium, between 1887 and 1895, together with a half-lifesized female figure and six smaller figures (two priests and four priestesses). The larger figure and three of the smaller figures are now in the British Museum.
