A BRONZE TONDO BUST OF A GODDESS
CIRCA 2ND CENTURY A.D.
Possibly depicting Juno or Venus, the goddess wearing a chiton and a mantle pulled up over the back of her head as a veil, a crescentic diadem in her center-parted wavy hair, the diadem with an incised palmette and tendrils, her eyes inlaid in black on white glass, with a slender nose and small smiling mouth, her neck with several "Venus"-lines, the bust emerging from a calyx of petals graduated in size, each curled outwards, with traces of gilding preserved in her hair, the reverse with three large rectangular tenons for attachment
