20 original parts as issued in 19 monthly volumes, 8° (224 x 140mm). 40 etched plates by H.K. Browne. (Some browning to plates or plate margins, particularly in final part.) Uncut in original green wrappers, front covers with woodcut pictorial border by Browne; early 20th-century green morocco box (broken).

FIRST EDITION IN ORIGINAL PARTS WITH FINELY-PRESERVED WRAPPERS. The wrappers bear the longer title of 'The Personal History, Adventures, Experiences, & Observations of David Copperfield the Younger of Blunderstone Rookery.' The work is scarce in parts. As Eckel notes, the printing was comparatively small, the parts were 'much read and roughly handled,' and 'fine, clean and unrepaired copies' were 'difficult to procure' even in 1932. Part 8 includes at end the advertisement sheet folded in 5 for 'Letts's Diaries for 1850', 8 specimen leaves of diaries and one calendar leaf, described by Hatton & Cleaver (p. 254) as 'more often than not a missing quantity.' Eckel p. 77-78; Hatton & Cleaver p. 253ff.
