FIRST EDITION of Swedenborg's work, On the Level of the Seas and the Great Tides in Former Times, in which he proved that Scandinavia had once been covered by an ocean. He submitted as evidence in support of his theory sedimentary deposits, gravel ridges, fish in landlocked lakes and the raising of the land along the Baltic coast: such empirical proof initiated a debate in Sweden about 'water reduction'.
