19 volumes bound in 18, large 2o (570 x 420 mm). Printed title with dedication to Queen Marie-Amelie of France, 1736 engraved plates, mostly on india paper mounted, numerous woodcut illustrations in text (some scattered light foxing). Contemporary red morocco by NIEDRÉE (with his stamp at foot of spine of supplement volumes 1-2 and 6), richly gilt, large rectangular central panel with gilt cornerpieces enclosing a broad blind-stamped rectangular and semicircular panel in which is set a similar shaped triple gilt panel incorporating stylized foliage and shell ornaments around the central blind-stamped medallion in which is set the gilt monogram of King Louis Philippe, spines similarly gilt and blind in seven compartments with six raised bands (some darkening to covers, some rubbing or light abrasions to edges). Provenance: KING LOUIS PHILIPPE I (his large gilt royal monogram on covers); Grace Phillips Johnson (sale Christie's New York, 18 November 1977, lot 192, mistakenly described as being bound in 19 volumes).
