Lot Essay

Apart from being a unique record of Arthur J. Nash's pioneering work in glass manipulation and decoration, this group of documents also provides insight into Leslie Nash's determination to ensure that his father, rather than Tiffany, would one day receive due credit for his discoveries. The formulae - which Tiffany was never allowed to see - are all set down in code, the key for which is given in one of the notebooks.
Throughout these journals and documents, there are later jottings by Leslie Nash which amply express his resentment, describing Tiffany's lack of understanding of the techniques being employed, and condemning his acceptance of the acclaim for Favrile Glass exclusively for himself.
