Designed by Pininfarina and built by Scaglietti, these exquisite cars earned their reputation as superb driver's cars. Mid-engined with a flexible power unit, an uncomplicated chassis, independent suspension and a comfortable driver's cockpit, they proved to be quick, manoeuvrable cars which are still a joy to drive. The Pininfarina styling has lasted over 30 years and both the GT and GTS Dino are still hugely admired by Ferrari enthusiasts.
Presented in the familiar combination of Rosso red with black leather interior and red carpets this 246 GTS is by no means perfect but is a fine example of the model and of particular note is the panel fit which is extremely good all round. Apart from a couple of chips on the drivers' door and some minor bubbling on the bottom of both doors the paintwork is sound, as is the engine bay. The faded dashboard top gives the interior an authentic feel and one would be hard pushed to disagree with the 62,282 miles on the odometer.
The history file indicates that all maintenance between 1975 and 1987 (despite owner changes) was carried out by Emblem cars in Dorset and the respective invoices attest this. Further paperwork notes a general overhaul carried out at Modena in 1990 and in 1996 the car had minor work carried out at Moto Technique. The attractive number plate 2 DYW is included in the sale.
