1925 ROLLS-ROYCE 40/50hp PHANTOM 1 SEDANCA DE VILLE

Engine: straight six, push rod overhead valves, 7,668cc; Gearbox: four speed manual; Suspension: front, semi-elliptic leaf spring, rear cantilever leaf spring; Brakes: four wheel mechanically operated, servo-assisted drum. Right hand drive.
10 LC is a fine example of the handsome semi-formal coachwork that was typical of the Barker coachbuilding house to whom it was delivered by Rolls-Royce on the 5th December 1925. The quality of build is easily evidenced by its condition today, which is entirely solid and remains functional throughout. A copy of the original build sheets for 10 LC accompany the car. Furthermore, the car has weathered time to remain in exceptionally original order, such that the interior, particularly the rear compartment is entirely complete even to an original head-rest cushion and carpet, all only gently aged. At some stage the roof covering may have been replaced, but if it has this has been refurbished and now aged also to be in keeping with the rest of the car.
The car was originally sold to M.M. Cunniff Esq of the Carlton Hotel, London, in 1926, and later moved with him back to America while he worked for Naphan & Co. stockbrokers of Wall Street, New York. It remained in America for many years, but passed through only two further ownerships, one from 1966 to 1988. The car was repatriated by well-known enthusiast the late Clive Sherwood, a keen collector and connoisseur of originality, which says much for its charm. It was purchased by the present owner in 1998.
Since acquisition, the Rolls-Royce has been progressively worked through to ensure that it can be used regularly and relied upon at all times. This process has taken some time, and work has included the fitting of an electrical fuel pump, stainless steel exhaust, renewal of the king pins, as well as the wise decision to completely re-wire the car, making provision for the side lights to act as indicators for increased road safety.
The result of this thorough re-working is that the car is indeed now 'on the button' and ready to use. The present owner of the car has campaigned 10 LC in France and the UK including the R.R.E.C. events and the Queen's Jubilee Tribute in 2002. With a busy season of centenary events for the Rolls-Royce marque in the forthcoming season it would provide the collector or enthusiast with an excellent entry.
