An Italian maiolica dated dish and an Italian maiolica dated and inscribed small polychrome plate
THE FIRST 1720, PERHAPS SOUTH ITALY; THE SECOND 1650, SOUTH ITALIAN
Painted to the centre with a flaming heart pierced with three arrows about the date 1720 within a sunburst, the well and border with leaf garlands (minor rim chipping); the second with the centre inscribed S.PORTIA CATNA. CERRETA on a ribbon dividing a central roundel filled with a bouquet of flowers, the lower edge inscribed 1650, the rim with panels of flowerheads alternating with foliage scrolls (minute rim flaking)
The first, 7½ in. (19 cm.) diam. the second 7 3/8 in. (18.7 cm.) diam. (2)
