A carved soapstone figure of the luohan gopaka, 17th century
modelled seated wearing loose robes in folds around his crossed legs, the finely carved hems embellished with inlaid stones and pearls, his left arm slightly raised leaning on pierced rockwork holding a tablet before him, his left hand resting on his knee holding a string of beads, the stone varying between a rich honey, grey and white colour, two character Yu Xuan mark to the centre of the back -- 2 7/8in. (7.2cm.) high.
