rectangular white earthenware plaque with shaped top, hand-painted in gilt with heading: "Visit of the 20th Australian Test Team/To Alfred Meakin (Tunstall) Ltd. Royal Albert and Newfield Potteries," the signatures of the 18 team members below, and date "July 1948" at foot, transfer-printed border with rose at each corner. ONE OF ONLY 7 COPIES MADE.

presented to the vendor's husband by the managing director of Royal Albert and Newfield Potteries.

Lot Essay

A FINE AND RARE ITEM. This plaque is believed to be one of only seven manufactured. The heading and signatures are all gilded by hand, and it seems clear that the team members indivdually signed the small number of plaques made when visiting the factory.
