Lot Essay

Lawrence Toynbee, 1922-2002, the youngest son of the historian, Arnold Toynbee, studied at the Ruskin School of Drawing, Oxford, and then taught art at the Ruskin School, Oxford School of Art, and Bradford. He specialised in painting sporting events, particularly cricket, rugby and football.
