the gilt chain fusee movement with Egyptian pillars, foliate decorated and pierced balance cock with broad pierced foot, silvered disc regulator, the silvered repousse dial with Roman and outer Arabic numerals, in a plain polished case similarly numbered, engraved on the back This watch made by Danial Quare (temp Cromwell) belonged to the to the father and grandfather of the late Sir George Jackson Duckett Bart who was born in 1725, in matching outer polished case, dial movement signed, together with fitted case

Lot Essay

Sir George Jackson 1st Bt was secretary of State to the Admiralty and judge advocate to the fleet, he was a friend and patron of Captain Cook who named "Port Jackson in New Zealand" and another in New South Wales Australia after him.

Daniel Quare born 1649 and Master in 1708 was one of the great clockmakers of his time making watches and long case clocks of outstanding quality. He invented and made repeating watches from about 1680. He died in 1722.
