A Russian gold and gem set Cigarette case by Morozov
of rectangular form with reeded decoration, the lid applied with an Imperial eagle motif set with an old brilliant-cut diamond, the thumbpiece set with a cabochon sapphire, circa 1908-1917, maker's mark IP and St Petersburg assay mark, later converted to a powder compact with a mirror to the interior.

The firm of Morozov was founded in St. Petersburg in 1849, by Ivan Yevdokimovich Morozov, and was a purveyor to the court, producing a variety of silver, gold and enamel items. Several master foremen who worked for the business are known, but the maker of this case with the cyrillic initials I.P. is not recorded.
