A Regency white marble and ormolu-mounted library timepiece
Semaine a Londres. Circa 1820
The rectangular plinth base on ormolu toupie feet and inset with an ormolu plaque cast with putti playing games, the sides of the plinth mounted with similar plaques, the reverse mounted with bronze patinated plaques of a similar type, the clock flanked by muses emblematic of learning holding books engraved Pensae Auxilium, the central clock case resting on acanthus carved marble volutes with rib-carved barrel casing surmounted by a flambeau ormolu finial, the white enamel dial with gold painted Roman chapters and signed Semaine a Londres, delicate blued steel moon style hour and minute hands and counterpoised sweep centre seconds, the single fusee movement with Weeks's deadbeat escapement mounted on the backplate together with the original pendulum with wedge-shaped bob
